Stately Home Vacations are offering Sawday's readers the once in a lifetime chance to experience the secret life of the English country house in a unique and privileged way, by taking you behind the red velvet ropes of some of the loveliest houses in the beautiful Peak District and its surroundings.
Derbyshire, ‘prince among counties’ and the Peak District have some of the greatest houses in England. Among them are Chatsworth, ‘the Palace of the Peak’; Hardwick Hall, ‘more glass than wall'; and Adam's great masterpiece, Kedleston. The extraordinary time capsule Calke Abbey is also near at hand.
Your stay from Monday until Friday, in a luxurious country house hotel, will be augmented by escorted daily tours of a number of stately homes that chart the evolution of the country house in England. More than that, you will be given the wonderful opportunity of dining with the owners of sumptuous houses, some not even normally open to the public, as a guest in the privacy of their own dining rooms. You will gain an understanding and insight into the private world of these extraordinary places - a way of life that is slipping away. At all times you will be given expert guidance into the history and development of the English country house on both sides of the green baize door.
A reduction of 10% is offered to Sawday's readers (special price of £2,250.00 inclusive of hotel, travel within the Peak District and food and drink). This is a carbon offset holiday.
