Wer bis dato immer glaubte, Schottland sei ausschließlich die Destination für Whiskyenthusiasten, der muss nun umdenken, denn das Land wird jetzt auch für Weinkenner interessant. Vorreiter ist die Moniack Castle Winery südwestlich von Inverness. Der Familienbetrieb im über 420 Jahre alten Schloss bietet nicht weniger als 9 Landweine und Liköre an, daneben weitere landwirtschaftliche Produkte wie diverse Konfitüren. Unangefochtenes Highlight ist der Silver Birch Wine, der aus den Säften der Silberbirke gewonnen wird und laut Queen Victorias Tagebuch das Lieblingsgetränk von Prinz Albert war. Auf einer 20-minütigen Führung durch das Haus werden sämtliche Produktionsabläufe präsentiert und erklärt.
